Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information associated with a visit to Jefferson County Criminal History, the reasons it may be processed, and the limited situations in which another service may receive it. By continuing to browse or use a feature on the site, you accept the practices set out below.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that feature. The provider processes the query and supplies its response. We do not keep or log those search terms on our systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

When you email us, the message may be retained long enough to answer and maintain the related correspondence. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

Our servers receive routine technical details when a page loads:

  • The IP address assigned to your device
  • Which browser you are using and its version
  • Your device type and operating system
  • The pages you visited and how long you stayed on each
  • The site that sent you here, if any
  • Timestamps for each page view

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files placed on a device. Along with analytics services, they help aggregate traffic patterns, such as popular pages and points where visits end. A browser can block cookies, though doing so may change how some site functions behave.

What We Do With This Data

  • Keeping the site up, running, and loading quickly
  • Sending your search requests to the right partner service
  • Figuring out which pages people find useful and which need work
  • Tracking down and fixing technical issues
  • Showing ads that may line up with your interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

This site does not maintain, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It explains how to reach Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Jefferson County Circuit Court, Oregon State Police CJIS, and the Oregon State Police Sex Offender Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not compiled into consumer reports or third-party criminal files.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes. A partner's privacy policy, retention schedule, and disclosure practices govern information entered there; this policy does not. Read those terms before sending a query because we do not control the partner's processing.

Links to Other Websites

Throughout the site we link to sheriff's office pages, court portals, state agency sites, legal aid groups, and third-party search tools. Clicking any of those links takes you off our site. At that point, their privacy policy governs your visit. Read it before sharing any personal details.

Certain advertising partners may track your activity across sites to show targeted ads. That tracking runs on their systems, not ours.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal data. Some information may end up with:

  • Search partners that handle queries you run on our site
  • Analytics services we use to track traffic and performance
  • Ad networks that place ads on our pages
  • Law enforcement or government bodies when a valid legal order requires it

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for data within our control. No internet system can guarantee absolute security, however, so we cannot promise that an unauthorized event will never occur.

Users Under 18

The site is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If such information is identified, a request may be made for its deletion.

Your Data Rights

Rights may vary by residence. In Oregon, the Oregon Consumer Privacy Act, ORS 646A.570 through 646A.589, provides qualifying consumers with privacy rights subject to the law's scope and exceptions. You may be able to:

  • Ask for a copy of what we have on file about you
  • Have us fix information that is wrong
  • Request that we erase your data
  • Opt out of certain kinds of data processing

Updates to This Policy

This policy may be revised as site practices or legal duties change. A revised version will appear here with its new effective date.
